Indy Music on the net
Indianapolissongwriterscafe.com is just one Indy music destination. Below are some of the best music sites in town. If you keep up with what these sites are covering you can't go wrong!
Indianapolismusic.net
One of the best places to get started with the Indy music world. Great editorial, a listing of each weeks top ten live shows, a featured artist each week & a weekly podcast series with some great music from local artists. Also, you can link from this site to the indianapolismusic.net message boards. It's a great spot to talk with people who are all knee deep in local music. There's a great musicians wanted/available section too for any collaborations you might be cooking up!
Musicalfamilytree.net
Musical Family Tree serves as both an MP3 archive & an interactive online community. It's like Myspace without all the garbage! Sign up for an account, get in there and see what's happening. You'll find some great music (mostly local) and a lot more to dig into with the social networking side.
NUVO.net
You can't go far in Indy without seeing a NUVO here or there. Not strictly a music publication but a great place to find out what's happening. NUVO has been at the center of the Indianapolis music scene for the better part of two decades. It's hard to stay in touch without picking up a NUVO.
Indy.com
Indy.com is the arts & entertainment arm of the Indianapolis Star. Formerly known as INtake. They've got a great music section and do a weekly artist feature (usually local music) Although this is a print publication the .com in the name tells you that the online face of Indy.com is a big part of what they do. There's some good functionality on the site allowing users to interact, comment & take part in the news. Indy.com also publishes the weekly Top 10 Live list that's voted on by a whole crew of local music press staff.
Queen Bee Music
Queen Bee is Nora Spitznogles music blog. You'll find her Broad Ripple Gazette column posted online here and quite a bit more! Although QBM is not focused entirely on songwriter music it's a safe bet that you'll find all kinds of musical goodness here. Nora has been a central figure in the local songwriter world and she tends to come back to it more often than not.
Indy Folk News
Indy Folk News has a community calendar on the web, a yahoo group that you can join for news on events & also a myspace page you can link to from this main site. There's a good group here that's really committed to the scene & also you'll tend to find out about events that aren't advertised in the usual places!
