Those Darlins  BEST OF NASHVILLE & NEXT BIG NASHVILLE PICK "If history has taught us anything, it's that punk rock and old-time country music have more in common than anyone would have ever suspected. The Murfreesboro, Tenn., trio known as Those Darlins illustrate this truism. [They] banded together over their love of The Carter Family's deadpan, crazed music and bring an energy to live performance that recalls the antics of punk heroes such as The Cramps...If the folks who ran the Grand Ole Opry had any sense, Those Darlins would be hawking Goo Goo Clusters and stirring up audiences with originals such as "The Whole Damn Thing," a tale of unrepentant chicken-eating." -EDD HURT, Nashville Scene

Kristy Kruger was named Best Female Singer in the 2006 Dallas Observer Music Awards and The Dallas Morning News describes Kristy as "one of the most eclectic singers in the Dallas music scene. Imagine a female Tom Waits, produced by Daniel Lanois." Krugers 3rd album, “An Unauthorized Guide to the Human Anatomy” won Best Female Singer/Songwriter Album of the Year at the Just Plain Folks International Independent Music Awards. Ira Glass, Host of Public Radio International's "This American Life" had this to say about Kristy – “One of my favorite interviews this year. Way more comments about her than say, our coverage of Iraq.”

Dylan Sneed threw off the confines of corporate America back in 2006 and has never looked back.  The Dallas Observer says - “[No Worse For The Wear] is by far [Dylan’s] best release as it incorporates elements of the literate emotionalism of Paul Simon and James Taylor and the earthy candor of The Band and Townes Van Zandt. Sneed's songs are inherently spiritual with narratives that pose some big questions about devotion and relationships, both personal and mystical.”

Ryan Bingham (Lost Highway Records) has spent most of his life on the road, first on the rough-and-tumble rodeo circuit, then moving from town to town on the equally volatile roadhouse musical circuit. Those travels have given him plenty of material to draw from - and plenty of reason to stop for a moment to dig in his heels and take a stand.

ISC Presents The Duke & The King + Cara Jean Wahlers

** Thursday, August 13th, 8:30pm @ Locals Only - $10 **

www.localsonlyindy.com - For address and more

What's in a name?  The Duke & The King (featuring Simone Felice of The Felice Brothers) are the two roving charlatans from The Adventures Of Huckleberry Finn, (which Simone read for the thirteenth time as Robert scratched out his signature vocal harmonies by the woodstove), a couple classic American grifters who's lay was to masquerade as European royalty, put on bad accents, find a bandstand, dress up like Romeo and Juliet, stage on an obscene parody and skip town after the first act, ultimately getting them tarred and feathered. And so the name is a reminder, a sort of scarlet letter they'll happily paint over their hearts to help them keep it honest, the music, the poetry

ISC Presents Malcolm Holcombe + Cliff Snyder

** Thursday, September 10th, 9pm @ Radio Radio - $8 / $10 **

www.futureshock.net - For address and more

*** Get your tickets right here - $8adv / $10 day of show: ***

"Some singers have an old soul, but Malcolm Holcombe's has always felt downright primordial. Across the ages, he has developed a rugged state of grace that's all his own." -- No Depression

"You'll find the loneliness, chill and beauty of an Appalachian early morning in North Carolina native Malcolm Holcombe's latest recording. His road-wizened voice, somewhere between Utah Philips and Tom Waits, sings unflinchingly of hard times and hard work. "Layin' rock, drivin' a nail, drivin' a truck, deliverin' mail", sings Holcombe, extolling the satisfaction of the day laborer in "Doin' His Job". Doc Watson-style finger-picked guitar is the sole accompaniment, and the sparseness of the arrangements serves to higlight the lyrics." -- Performing Songwriter Magazine

ISC Presents Hoots & Hellmouth + Annie & the Beekeepers + Lynsey Smith

** Saturday, September 12th, 9pm @ Radio Radio - $5 **

www.futureshock.net - For address and more

"Annie Lynch and the Beekeepers owes much of its sound to the lilting country and bluegrass melodies of its forebears, but its musical palette is diverse enough to include a touch of New Orleans Dixie clarinet and some gorgeously resonant cello playing." – The Boston Globe

On Hoots & Hellmouth -

"....the next great punk stringband....theirs could be the first gold album in this brave new subgenre." - No Depression

“4 To Watch. Where soul meets barnstomp.  Their shows are not to be missed".”Paste Magazine

“The Hoots' blend of alt-country, rock, and gospel was amplified only by their own considerable joy…the disparate trio proved that showmanship is more about attitude and energy” - Boston Globe

"The band's debut album, H&H, is marked by rambunctious energy, a welcome sense of humor, a hint of old-time string bands." - Washington Post

Segment of Society & ISC Presents Lindsay Mac

** Tuesday, October 27th, 8pm @ Radio Radio - $5 **

www.futureshock.net/radioframeset.html - For address and more

Lindsay Mac is a girl you’ll not likely forget. The obvious is that she is the girl who straps her cello to her body. Like a guitar, she strums and plucks it while singing. “A classical education gone horribly wrong” is usually the gist of the local headline. Yet what you’ll remember about this musician might not be the obvious. Beneath the headlines the single most valuable bow in Mac’s indie-music-making quiver is her songwriting.

"I want to run into the streets and force people to hear this genius girl with her strapped on cello." - Indie-Music.com
